Shamanic Journey Series – 4: Preparation
Open Sacred Space
Choose a comfortable space to journey that feels safe, quiet, and sacred to you; somewhere where you won’t be disturbed. Before you begin, take a moment to clear and settle the energy of the space.
You can do this by using intention to clear the space along with one or more of the following:
- Sound – Chimes, drums, rattles, singing bowls, clapping, snapping, using your voice, or whistling.
- Smoke – Sage, palo santo, or other sacred plants, if that aligns with your practice.
- Essential Oils – Diffusing or anointing yourself with oils like frankincense, cedar, or lavender.
The goal is to set apart the space as sacred, clearing away distractions so that you can enter your journey with focus and presence.
You might even choose to create an altar to hold the energy of your journey. This could include a beautiful cloth, crystals, candles, or anything else that calls to you
Get Comfortable
Lie down or sit in a very comfortable position. Covering your eyes with a sleep mask or cloth can help you focus and limit distractions.
Set yourself up to be as still and relaxed as possible; you’ll want to remain in one position with little to no movement for the duration of your journey. For beginners, journeys typically last between 15 and 30 minutes.
Relax, and take a few deep breaths. Cover or close your eyes.
